A house designed in response to the magnificent,
often harsh, natural context. Spaces
step up the steep slope, protected from the winds by a curving stone wall and
opening up to the sun and views over the ocean on the leeward side – the curves
of the stone wall representing the mountains and the ripple of the balustrade
the waves of the ocean. Colours and
materials blend into the fyn-bos biosphere, the whole house often disappearing
in early morning mist, invisible from the road below. High level windows capture views of the
mountain hovering above – all adding to the allure of an escape to the
elements.
